CONTRIBUTION BY MATTHEW J. TRACHTENBERG TO NATIONAL ORCHESTRAL ASSOCIATION TO UNDERWRITE THE ASSOCIATION'S SPONSORSHIP OF SEMINAR FEATURING THE CONDUCTING TECHNIQUE OF MAESTRO LEON BARZIN
New York, New York – July 9, 2007 – The National Orchestral Association ("NOA") announced today that it had received a $10,000 contribution from Matthew J. Trachtenberg, which will be used to underwrite an upcoming NOA seminar on the conducting technique of NOA founding conductor, Maestro Leon Barzin. The conducting seminar will feature two Barzin protégés, Maestro Jacques Voois and Maestra Patricia Handy. Executive Director Eric Kuttner stated that the NOA is pleased to be able to continue its sponsorship of seminars featuring Maestro Barzin’s extraordinary conducting principles. In 2004, the NOA and the Conductors Guild co-sponsored a successful conducting seminar featuring Leon Barzin’s technique, which was held at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Mr. Kuttner indicated that the current seminar will be held either this fall or in the spring of 2008 at a location to be announced. He expressed appreciation to Chairman Matthew Trachtenberg for his leadership in this important initiative. Maestro Barzin was a major influence for many of today’s conductors, and his work at the National Orchestral Association has helped thousands of American musicians prepare for successful classical music careers. The NOA is pleased to perpetuate the Barzin conducting legacy by sponsoring seminars teaching his principles. Since its founding in 1930, the NOA has supported the work of American classical musicians, composers and conductors.
